SGT (Ret.) Xavier Negrete
SGT Xavier Negrete grew up in Mexico and relocated to Beaumont, TX when he was 15 years old.
In order to join the US Army, Negrete graduated one month early from high school. Xavier served in Iraq from April 2003 until March 2005, and was frequently assigned to reconnaissance missions. He also searched houses weapons, patrolled streets of Bagdad, guarded security trucks, and escorted high ranking officials in Bagdad. While Negrete encountered improvised explosive devices and rocket-propelled grenades throughout his tours of duty, it was automobile accident in Mexico between deployments that injured him.
Negrete sustained a traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injuries that have left him with paraplegia and paralyzed on the left side of his body. He continues to receive medical treatment on a regular basis, and resides in his specially adapted Helping A Hero home as he adjusts to his "new normal." Xavier is thankful to his family for the support they have offered him since the day of his accident.
