The Houston-based non-profit, non-partisan organization, Helping A Hero, will present a specially adapted home for local wounded hero, SPC (Ret.) Jack Zimmerman, USA, on Monday, July 25 at 9:30 a.m. in Elysian, Minn. Senator Ted Cruz will officially present the keys to SPC Zimmerman in honor of his sacrifices for our country. Families are encouraged to attend to show their support and children are welcome at this patriotic event. The Welcome Home will occur on the same day as SPC Zimmerman’s birthday.

Jack Zimmerman, 27, is a native of Cleveland, MN, and joined the Army where he graduated from Airborne School in Ft. Benning. Zimmerman deployed to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division,2/502 in June 2010. On March 9, 2011, Zimmerman stepped on an IED while on dismounted patrol in Afghanistan leaving him a double above the knee amputee. In addition to losing both legs, he lost three fingers on his right hand and both his arms suffered severe breaks, fractures, and skin loss. He has endured 20 operations and through an intense rehabilitation regiment at the Center for the Intrepid at San Antonio Military Medical Center, he learned to walk again using prosthetic legs that include mechanical knees. On May 28, 2011, Jack wed his high school sweetheart, Megan, and they have 2 sons.

The Welcome Home ceremony is open to the public and the community is invited to attend.

Join Helping A Hero July 25, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at Jason Adam Court, Elysian, MN (Right past Beaver Dam and on German Lake). Look for the flags and Helping A Hero signs to direct you to parking.
